What it does

United neighbors/ vecinos unidos (unvu) was formed in 2021 to support nueva vida (formerly parklane) mobile home park residents to purchase the park, maintain its affordability, and establish a resident ownership and governance model. Nueva vida, located at 411 s. Court street in fort collins, is home to over 300 residents representing 67 households (200 adults and 100 children), with a population that is 90% spanish-speaking. Many residents are from families who immigrated to fort collins from mexico and have lived in the community for more than 15 years, primarily working in minimum-wage and manual labor jobs. The state of colorado has worked to pass legislation to protect the rights of mobile home park residents. Hb20-1201 includes an opportunity to purchase provision, whereby park owners must give homeowners at least 90 days to express interest in purchasing the property and another 90 days to close the purchase. Thanks to this landmark bill, residents and community leaders formed

United neighbors/vecinos unidos (un/vu) was formed in 2021 to support nueva vida (formerly parklane) mobile home park residents to purchase the park, maintain its affordability, and establish a resident ownership and governance model. Nueva vida became only the sixth mobile home park in the state to move to resident governance/ownership at the time of purchase. This was the result of a rigorous community organizing effort led by and for residents. The role of the un/vu board of directors is to support what the residents of nueva vida want to achieve for their community, now and in the future. Currently, un/vu is focusing its efforts on infrastructure improvements and community governance.
