What it does

Reef renewal usa is renewing coral reefs for future generations in a rapidly changing world by producing and outplanting resilient corals of the future at an unprecedented scale.

Reef renewal usa rebuilds coral reefs in the florida keys. To accomplish our goals, corals are grown in two regional offshore coral nurseries in the florida keys. The nurseries are located off tavernier and big pine key. A land-based coral farm is scaling up to produce corals at a commercial scale. Once the corals are large enough, they are then planted on the target reefs. Current restoration activities are focused up and down the florida keys reef tract. There is a special focus on the mission: iconic reefs initiative at carysfort reef, sombrero reef, looe key, newfound harbor, and eastern dry rocks. Additional work occurs at molasses reef, conch reef, and coffins patch reef. We place a special emphasis on engaging communities and volunteers to assist in taking ownership of our precious coral reefs.
